I’m Lyris Snowden an artist living on a small farm nestled in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, east coast Australia. I love breathing new life into forgotten furniture, transforming pieces into vibrant, functional art that journal my musings on life. Every part of the furniture is covered in flowers, moons, insects, my poetry and more, including the underside because what’s underneath matters.

My painted furniture journey began with a discarded kitchen chair, no wall space for art and a need for a visual journal. By sourcing furniture from op-shops and curbsides I am honouring the life of the tree that provided the timber, was felled, milled, shaped, and eventually cast aside. I use acrylic paint and occasionally chalk paint if stencilling.

When not painting, I lecture in biology, tend my vegetable garden, and observe life through a microbial lens collecting the small moments that later bloom across the surface of my furniture and canvases.
