Wild Indigo Furniture
Brecon, UK
Maria has been reimagining furniture for many years—first for her own home, then for family and friends, who encouraged her to take the leap and establish Wild Indigo so she could share her passion more widely. Before long, her sister Vicky joined her, bringing her own creativity to the mix and helping shape pieces that combine heritage with modern-day living.
Together, they take pride in rescuing beautiful furniture from landfill. The craftsmanship found in older pieces never ceases to inspire them—the dovetail joints, carved details, and elegant hardware are a testament to the skill of the makers and to the fact that these pieces have stood the test of time. Still, while vintage and antique furniture often radiates character, it isn’t always practical for today’s homes. That’s where Maria and Vicky step in, reimagining and transforming each piece so that it works seamlessly in a modern setting.
Although they are especially drawn to historically significant furniture, they are equally happy to breathe new life into more recent pieces if it means saving them from landfill. With a little imagination, every item has the potential for a second life—restored to pride of place in someone’s home.
Their process begins with careful cleaning and sanding, a stage where they really get to know the character of each piece. Often, inspiration strikes here—some items call out to be painted and finished with striking decoupage or artwork, while others shine brightest when treated with subtle restraint, allowing the natural materials to speak for themselves.
As with all pre-loved furniture, Wild Indigo creations may show gentle signs of their history. These imperfections tell part of the story and add to the charm, though Maria and Vicky always aim to minimise them. Every item is hand-finished with patience and care, meaning brush marks, textures, and small variations may be visible—but rather than flaws, these details are what make each piece truly one-of-a-kind. High-quality paints and materials ensure every restoration is built to last.
The workshop, based in the Brecon Beacons National Park, is always a hive of activity, with new pieces being created, restored, and released for sale once Maria and Vicky are completely satisfied with them. Each Wild Indigo item is more than furniture, it’s a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, restored with love and care, ready to take pride of place in someone’s home once again.
